Cynthia Murguia is and has been an exemplary educator and life long learner. She has been recognized as a Teacher of the Year as well as received awards from CABE California Association for Bilingual Education.

Cynthia was the original dual language teacher in Anaheim Elementary School District. Due to her success, the AESD dual language program has grown to include a strand at all schools in Spanish, and now also includes a Korean strand.

Her dedication to her students and parents was evident as she found ways to find resources in Spanish when all curriculum at the time was only available in English. Cynthia is a Hispanic making a significant positive change in her community.

Shirley has been in this position for 6 years and previously served as a School Psychologist at AESD. She is a caring individual who not only supports student's' mental health but also the adults in the family, as well as staff when needed. Shirley makes herself available to families 24/7 365 days of the year, as mental health does not take a break. She leads AESD’s Crisis Response team when needed to ensure the district is providing the necessary wrap around services as needed.

Shirley has established community partnerships throughout the City of #Anaheim and works relentlessly to reduce the stigma of Mental Health in the Latino/a/x community. During the Pandemic she brought grief counseling to our students and families that were impacted by COVID-19 deaths', and continues to support them today. Shirley Diaz is compassionate and kind in every situation!
