At Tuesday’s Buena Park City Council meeting, I had the privilege of presenting certificates of recognition to Buena Park Police Chief Frank Nunes, Corporal Martin Tomsick, and Officer Joseph Lovetere for their outstanding participation in our Anonymous Gun Buyback event in partnership with Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento. Their dedication to public safety was instrumental in making the event a success.

The Buena Park Police Department’s involvement, alongside the leadership of the Anaheim Police Department and collaboration with multiple cities and police departments, including Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, and Placentia, as well as the OC Sheriff Department’s Bomb Squad, showcases the power of united efforts in enhancing community safety.

Through the Gun Buyback initiative, residents had the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted guns in exchange for gift cards and receive gun lock boxes for secure storage at home. Since launching my first Anonymous Gun Buyback in October 2022, we have collected a total of 757 firearms, including 53 assault weapons.

Thank you to Chief Nunes, Corporal Tomsick, Officer Lovetere, and the entire Buena Park Police Department for your unwavering commitment to making Orange County safer.

Today, we bid farewell to Milena and Kimberly on their last day as AIME interns in my office.

The Anaheim’s Mentoring Innovative Experience (AIME) Program bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, empowering students with the skills, experiences, and confidence they need to become career-ready and college-minded individuals.

Through their internship, Milena and Kimberly have gained invaluable insights into the inner-workings of County government, connecting with my staff and County staff, and assisting us with day-to-day work such as legislative analyses, event preparation, and community outreach.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to witness their dedication over these past six weeks and seeing their interest in public service grow. Their journey is a shining example of what AIME aims to achieve – connecting students to mentors and real-world experiences that ignite their purpose and passion.

Today is our county’s CEO Frank Kim’s last day.

At the June 25th Board of Supervisors meeting we presented him a resolution recognizing his commitment and dedication to the county for the last 29 years of which he spent 9 years as CEO.

As CEO, he has led our county through many hard times and has worked to make the county a leader and change maker. I had the pleasure to work with him on many projects such as the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, and the Brea County Community Service Center.
